The Gilding Course

This course is designed as a practical introduction to water and mordant (oil) gilding.  Although gilding is a complex and time consuming craft the basic skills can be easily grasped in this three day intensive course.

Using traditional methods & materials, students will be guided through all the stages of preparation of gesso & bole to the laying & burnishing of gold & silver leaf.

At the end of the course participants should have completed 3 projects to take home.

Students are also given the opportunity to experiment with various paint effects & finishes on gesso. 

Comprehensive course notes are provided; also names and addresses of specialist suppliers of gilding equipment & materials.

3 day Water and Oil Gilding Course :  £260.00 per person

The fees include the use of all materials, brushes and tools necessary  for the course, including a book of gold leaf.  Additional gold can be purchased; also any  gilding equipment students wish  to take home.  Numbers are limited to 6 persons per course to allow for individual tuition.

The course starts at 10.00am each day and continues till 5.00pm. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.
